Hey Everyone!! Hopefully we all enjoyed another stressful night worrying whether or not that countdown will be restarted to 10 forcing you to shell out a few extra dollars (or more) on getting that one player that will make or break their season. Is it worth spending 60+ dollars on a RB who only played 1 game last season and earned less than 10 points in that game? What about filling your roster with almost 50% rookie or sophomore players? Or do you bet on previous Fantasy Super Stars and look to enjoy another rollercoaster season whether or not they will be the starter or sit in the supporter role hopefully getting that miracle TD to make your week. Overall, I will analyze each two team match every week and provide my hindsight opinion on what teams should have done. I will take into account "hunches", ESPN projections, or plays after a fantastic week (which won't probably happen again until they are back on the bench or waivers). I will do my best to analyze each move you make and how moves made possibly affect the rest of your season. Don't worry, I won't let you forget dropping a player in week 3 who turns out to be breakout player in week 6 or that trade that cost you a chance at the playoffs. (Obviously, I won't start adding these notes until later in the season when moves/mistakes make or break your season). Right now though we are still in the "planning" phase trying to get our teams all ready before the big week one. I still assume that many changes will occur prior to week 1 so I won't disclose my power rankings until after the preseason. With the regular season right around the corner, one or two breakout plays could earn a undrafted player a spot on your bench which might give you a quality player during those tough bye weeks. Anyway, I just did a quick mock draft based on my expectations of what I think each team is looking for and based on how each team ended up after last season (or seasons if applicable.) With my mock draft below, try to focus on the value of each player as compared to the player themselves (since that is obviously difficult unless its Derek which I surprisingly got 3 players right). I will provide my expectation for the draft and my thoughts on you spent your money. (Since I am an accounting/finance major I really want to see the return on any "investment" you made.) Anyways, I better get started before you get bored and stop reading. Indian Outlaws (IO) My predictions for IO was to focus on getting another top RB with Lacy and resolve the terrible QB situation he had last year. I mean, if I remember right he had at least 3 QBs fighting for his QB spot for the 2nd half of the season. Obviously, that doesn't matter when you have 4 of the top 10 WR (including Gronk and 3 top 15 RBs but with a new year comes a new draft so my thought was he would want to worry less amount a QB in the current year. However, I was a little off the mark. Overall, I felt like IO ended up with a pretty great starting team. However, Starting with Lacy and Beckham Jr. as your keepers well below their value would make any team look above average. I was a little surprised seeing IO going after big name WR as compared to RBs. I was expecting a Jamaal Charles or Lynch to be among the key players to join IO but obtaining a consistent WR is tough. D. Thomas will put up at least 1TD weekly when Manning goes 3+ TDs on average but I have less faith in Cutler putting up those kind of numbers. Don't get me wrong Jeffery is a great player but with Cutler's limitations I see a WR like TY Hilton as a much safer pick. He is around the same price range but with a QB who has limitless potential. We also knew IO would pick some rookie blood so Melvin Gordon was not too big of a surprise. Definitely, a safer pick as Gordon is with a decent San Diego team compared to some who bet on a injury waiting to happen or a team with little to no RB support. Overall, we knew IO would put out a great team but another thing we know is that this is not the team we will see week 1. With trades and the waiver wire already buzzing around in his head, I wouldn't be surprised to see the first big trade to come from the one and only IO. Mullynation AKA "The Lucky One" My predictions when it came to Mullynation was to focus on WR and maybe pull in another top 10 RB. With Luck and Murray already in your back pocket you are similar to IO as you already have a solid team which should win you some games. The key is how can you make it better!! Mullynation would do this by getting two top WRs and a solid TE to round out the starting squad. See predictions below: Overall, I accurately picked Julio but I knew Mullynation needed another top WR which was a fact. What I didn't except was that she would go for another top 3 RB to hopefully crush everyone each week with these Fantastic 4. The RB depth after these two players though gets considerable worse. A far distance down from JC and Murray sits Fred Jackson (don't get me wrong will get plenty of touches) but even worse is Bishop Sankey as your true RB3 when it comes to having a starter (depth chart wise) on any team. She has to hope for McCoy becoming slidelined for a few weeks during byes if she wants to cover one of her 2 RBs. I would be surprised to see a RB in her flex position if no changes are made before week 1. Hopefully a few of her long shot WR can make a name for themselves as a true Fantasy pick to truly hold her flex spot during the season. Mullynation couldn't have had a bad draft with her two keepers but if she could've added a little more depth at her RB slot, I would have considered this another A+ draft for her. With a little more RB depth this could've saved her during some foreseeable tough bye weeks to come or worse a plague of injury streaks... As mentioned, it was a very solid draft looking at her starters but that bench could use a little help before bye and more injury's start around week 4. 90 Degree Putters (90*) 90* started with a tough starting spot with only Justin Forsett as a possible keeper. A decent value for the current year but could be worthless in the future (this is no Montee Ball or Vernon Davis so he has that going for him). I figured that 90* should be focusing on RBs and WR with his limited keeper situations. As well as go for a rookie or two to make up for a possible keeper in the future if they strike it big. Also figured he had to go A. Rodgers since come on its been 2 years in a row, why not make it 3... Looking at the draft he definitely followed my train of thought getting a top RB (Lynch) and a top WR being Cobb. No Rodgers though which I was slightly disappointed. With Lynch, I can expect the Seahawks to avoid the passing play on the 1 yard in the future. So those goal line plays should definitely benefit 90* this year as its pretty tough not to get 1 yard let alone throwing the ball when you go #beastmode. Maybe they will learn a thing or two this year. 90* did pick up some quality talent with Spiller, Edelman, and Marshall, so hopefully at least one of them can return to their former glory at being at top 10 or 15 fantasy player. With a few rookies added to the list we will see if this is 90* breakout year or another rebuilding year. Overall, he picked up some big name players, some in their prime and some past their prime. However, let's not forget that 90* made it to the 2nd week of playoffs last year with a sub-par team. This team just finds a way to win and we can't count him out anytime throughout the year. One 50 point loss has turned 90* into a playoff team and we'll see if he can keep the name's power going into the new season. Twin City Tree Cats From the start of the draft I figured that TC2 would go for a strong WR core with Cruz putting himself on the IR after trading away a $51RB!! (Except it was the one and only Doug Martin which we all know what a stud he is). Anyway with all WR # 2s on his roster I knew TC2 would try to protect his WR interest with a big name (Kelvin Benjamin). I wasn't too far off with him picking up Jordy Nelson and a few decent (not top ten) but decent RBs. Reviewing the draft I would agree that TC2 went big on a top 5 WR and got some decent RB support. With Murray heading East, Randle looks to be big shot in Dallas and was definitely someone I wanted on my team. Ivory hasn't really proven himself as a valuable Fantasy asset but definitely worth a shot at a flex position from week to week. Love the late pick up Charles Johnson, who could be a strong flex player if he can prove himself early on and if Teddy Bridge can be consistent (which we all hope). Okay so Pet Peeve - Cruzin left a decent sum of $11 in his bank account at the end of the draft... This could have allowed him to spend a little more on another stronger RB1 or WR2 position. NEVER leave money on the table. You are starting from a disadvantage before the first game with your total team value and if any injury's occur (knock on wood) could put you even further back. Overall, TC2 still has a decent team with Manning, Ingram, (*Jordy) and JT. However, Manning is getting older and had a poor end of this last year and losing JT to the Jaguars doesn't help either player. Blake Bortles is not your top fantasy QB throwing 4+ TDs a game and JT is no longer Mannings go-to TE with that position likely being filled by a "blocking" TE from the news I've heard. So things might be good if he gets high performance from these (possibly) past their prime players. *EDIT: TC2s team is definitely hurting after Jordy pulling a Cruz and wanting to take the season off. Hopefully, this is the one and only injury for TC2 but based on his luck their might be a few more waiting for him this season. (Trade recaps/assessments will be in the pre-season power rankings post right before the first game/season starts) 302 Cadets (302) I got 302's number during draft day as I got the most predictions right for his team. I figured he would stick with his long shot J. Stewart who pulled out double digits in week 10 for the first time all year to edge out a win against #Omaha by less than 5 points (yes i'm still bitter). Also, I knew he would go for his main man Antonio Brown from Pit. Finally, somehow I knew he would draft the newbie TJ Yeldon which was kinda a long shot pick I'll be honest. I thought he would go for a strong QB like Big Ben but ended up with a Dolphin QB which is a long shot any day of the week. Lastly, can anyone tell me why 302 did not keeper Jeremy hill for $6 dollars when Spence purchased him for $44? Unless I am lookin at it wrong that was one bad move that could cost 302 a chance at the playoffs. Ican keep a top 10 RB for nothing? Nah, I'll cut him and keep my boy Brown for $44. He could have had both players for no more than 60. That's assuming Cadets spends $54 when the top 2 and 3 WR were less than $45. Does this make sense to you guys? Sure does from a economics perspective but let's see if Cadets can prove me wrong. Overall, with my predictions being similar to the results I don't have much more to say... expect to once again repeat if he spent the $12 on TJ Yeldon + the $44 spent on Brown this year is $56. Spending $4 more to swap TJ for Hill is a gimmie in my book but we'll see if Derek's RBs can surprise us this year. Derek ended up with a strong WR core with Brown, Green and Sanders. Let's just hope that is enough to help him with his lot of RB #2 having no true RB #1 on his squad. Big City Hillbillies (BCH) I was expecting that BCH would go for a few bigger name RBs that should get a lot of work. Ingram is solid and Hyde is going to get a lot of work with Gore now at Indie. However, I figured with having Julio in his line-up the past few years, that he would want to go for a top WR #1 even though I assume he is keepering Allen and Hopkins which are decent WR #2s. Also a long shot mock pick on my end Greg Olsen going to BCH was correct . We'll see if he has a good year or not and at this point we can only guess. I felt as though I had a decent thought process with Fa Tre picking up a Top 5 WR and some solid RB that should not hurt him getting consistent points. The QB was solid as well, not a top3 QB but Big Ben will definitely put up some numbers with his Top 3 WRs being Brown, Bryant and Wheaton. (EDIT - 8/27 with Bryant earning a 4 game suspension could hurt Big Ben's fantasy status losing a decent long ball threat. The Bryant loss doesn't hurt his WR situation really though already having a pretty solid set of 3 holding down his starting role.) Overall, the RB situation is solid but could cause some problems with the Bears WR injuries and more teams can game plan the run which will hurt Forte's stock. Hopefully Morris can stay healthy and turn out some strong RB 2 numbers this year. Fa Tre is definitely going to be a force to contend with this year unless one of his players is the next target on the hit list of injury's before the season even starts. River Gypsies (RG) I assumed that RG would keeper pick one of his RB2s for the current year with Murray or Miller (with Bell of course) his top RBs for the year. I picked Murray because originally the Dolphins run game/OL have been particularly poor in recent history. Don't get me wrong Oak is no better but I thought the opportunity for big fantasy points is better with Murray. Looking back Miller was definitely the smarter choice and overall saved RG some money in the long run (we can get to that below). With two RBs on the keeper list, I assumed RG would have to go big on a WR like Dez Bryant. Additionally, my thought was he'd pick up another top 20 WR to attempt to balance out the team. And lastly, pick a newer name RB3 (Flex) to hopefully cover Bells Suspension for the first few weeks. As mentioned above, Lamar Miller was a good pick and saved him a few extra dollars repurchasing Murray instead of keepering him. Hopefully, you picked right this year and Miller is still worth the $16 dollars next year as compared to $11 for Murray. RG went big on Gronk but will the 4 weeks without Brady really make it worth $33? ESPNs value was at $43 so I sure think he is. As long as Gronk can get the ball in his hands for these first few games he will definitely be paying off once Brady is back. RG is really missing that WR1 having spent $33 dollars on Gronk. We'll see if either of his two top WRs Tate and Jackson can repeat decent 2014 results with 300 combined points. Maybe one will even break the *top 10? My thought is unlikely with Tate behind Megatron and Jackson having a QB prone to injury. (EDIT: The chances keep getting better for these two to break the top 10 with Jordy and Kelvin having season ending injuries. Still unlikely in my book but this does improve their odds.) The biggest move for RG though is drafting a DL for $9 over the average value of 1$. That could move your Jackson draft to Sanders or Cooks. However, what's the upside to Watt? a solid 85-90 points greater then the next player in that position. No other position is even close to that spread with TE being the closest with Gronk 30 points greater then Gates. That's an extra 6 points per game in 15 games. and that's against the next best player!!! We maybe should have made him pay more for that spread. Now do I really think Watt will put up 180+ points again, no, but we'll see if the Star, who is JJ Watt, has as big of a impact in the current year as he did last year. Overall, RG has a pretty solid team with Bell leading the way (though from the sidelines week 1). If RG can somehow cover in his absence these first few games and JJ Watt pick up from where he left off last year. We could have another solid team as past years. Let's just see if he can put another playoff team together and make a run for the ship. I look forward to hearing what type of bets you and the Outlaw think up this year. I'll be sure to audit any games you can think of during your head to head battles. Troll Hunters (TH) The goal behind this season was to just shake it off and try my hand at a new team with new talent. Except that whole #Ohama which I was kind of excited to do again leading to a mock draft with PManning. I really don't want to be fishing the waiver wire for QBs each week or trying to play match ups which is why I wanted Manning. Obviously, keepering the rising Star C.J. and his back-up (*Edit I mean 3rd or possibly 4th string) Montee which was a dead weight of 24 from the start. At the very least I bought C.J for $30 which is cheaper than his price tag anyway. Also, I wanted to pick up McCoy thinking he is getting a lot of touches with that horrid QB situation at Buf. I wanted to pick up some fresh meat from Randle fully taking over Dallas!! Pick up a few decent WRs and be happy (don't know why i mocked drafted myself with Sammy when i just bashed the Buf QB situation... it was a late night on mock draft day ok). Basically, I wanted to pickup another decent top 10 RB, and solid QB, and a few rookies Okay, when I said "a few rookies" I meant as many rookies as I can apparently. I mean 6 rookie players is a little excessive and I am betting the house that at least one or two of them can make a name for themselves enough to build a future team on. Gurley was a little pricey and won't play right away (especially not... I hope not... against the Seahawkes week 1) and with Kevin White now IR for 6+ weeks and Perriman questionable as well. TH might have bit off a little more then he can chew. Even his top RB1 is questionable with a hamstring issue that could put him out a few weeks early. This is only going to add more pressure to see his rookie squad perform with Amari Cooper making an impact early in Oak. As well as Ameer Abdullah performing well in preseason to hopefully earn the starting role against the fickle Joique Bell. Adding one solid WR to the mix was a good move with Megatron as having a top 5 WR (Cobb) really helped his weak RB squad in the prior year. Let's just hope Megatron isn't sidelined with another injury which could happen to anyone. Overall, I am extremely happy with my draft. I wanted McCoy and got McCoy (probably overpaid a little) but that's what happens when you want a guy. Getting a solid WR with Megatron was a plus and I'm excited about all this new talent and the draft this past year!! I'm going all in on 2015 (the 2015 draft that is) and hoping for the best. 2 out of 6 isn't too greedy right? I just hope that these guys don't turn into a Zac Stacy or Bishop Sankey which everyone knows turned out sooooooo well for me last year. We will just have to wait and see which rookie makes the starting roster week one!! Northside Angels (NSA) Now NSA was the newest member of the league after their previous owner made a few unforgivable mistakes which led him to quit half way though the season. NSA managed his team well enough to avoid the horror which is letting someone else name your team. Now don't get me wrong there is definitely still a disadvantage of taking over a bad team. Not having a strong keeper makes you work your way back from the ground up. So I expect him to start new and forget everyone on his team last year with no keepers or maybe no one the previous owner drafted to remove the "curse." So my thought was go for a top 3 RB and a top 5 (or so) QB and a few top 10 WRs to cover the bases. Don't get too fancy, take big name players (which are a premium) and hopefully pick up a possible future keeper on the waivers who can be the building blocks for next year. Overall, spread the wealth and whatever you do DON'T autodraft for any part of the draft!! First concern - Isaiah Crowell... no one even knows who the starting RB will be let alone the starting QB. Dump that guy and hopefully spend the $5-7 on him during the draft. No one wants to get locked into a shitty contract (example Montee Ball above) and Montee only lost his spot due to injury and CJ Anderson being a BOSS. I mean it doesn't hurt you this year but who knows, $10 could mean a lot next year if he is a bust. $10 is much better than $22 like #Swft but still without solid confirmation he is the starter that's a risk I wouldn't take. Second concern - AP... not that you over paid (maybe a little), not that I expect him to not be 100% (he better be 100% or I am never letting this team buy AP again since the Vikes need him) and not even that I expect him to perform bad (I still think he is #1) BUT the fact that Kanne had him last year. "The incident" ruined his team and is enough for me to avoid having something similar cursing your team again. Okay, AP was still a great choice as I mentioned above that you needed a top 3 RB. You also picked up two strong WR with TY and TE with Graham who should have a strong impact with the Seahawks. And a strong QB to top it all off was a nice touch. No need to be playing the waiver week to week looking for QB match-ups. Focus on picking up new talent on the waivers to steal future keepers. I see that you are weak at the RB2 and Flex position. I mean I see a lot of backup RBs with Bernard, McFadden and who knows about Crowell (starter or not it's still Cleveland we are talking about here). Your best shot for these is hopefully a injury or two from Hill or Randle to cement a more permanent RB2 player (and let's not get me started when its APs bye week at week 5). Overall, I think NSA put a solid team together to definitely keep things more interesting this season. I like going for the top RB and the 2nd best QB. It shows that he's ready to take anyone on. I would say that there is a chance to be greater than 38% chance of victory this year!! Let's start by having a goal for 50% by mid-season and we can re-evaluate then. Smart match-ups and bench managements will be key. However, I did say chance and without an injury to a starting RB mentioned above it could be a tough road for NSA. Smell My Finger (SMF) I assumed SMF would keeper Mike Evans which is the real given on his team from the prior year keeper-wise. I assumed he would go really big going for RB #1 with AP to try and redeem himself this year after suffering the worst shame of Fantasy Football by losing the rights to your own name and picture. Spence can only hope to lose a few games by 50+ points to hopefully get a better name when someone else changes it (since honestly it can't get much worse...). Anyways, I thought he would also go for a top WR and spend as much money as he can on starters in hopes of putting a solid line-up each week. THE KEY THOUGH IS TO SPEND ALL YOUR MONEY!! (but we can get to that later). Obviously, your bench would suffer from this approach but hey I only mocked the starters so that's a problem for another day. Having a solid Russell as a keeper helps (yah i doubted this keeper last year) but a solid RB1 and 3 solid WRs could change the tides for SMF. So SMF was able to pick up a top RB (J. Hill) which 302 didn't keeper for reasons unknown to everyone (probably even 302 at the point). He picked a little better RB2 then my Doug Martin (looking back idk why he even made the list haha). Overall, SMF did as I expected. Has a solid RB1 and RB2, went for a bigger name WR1 with Kelvin and a backup WR2/Flex with Sammy (even though that QB situation is pretty brutal). Obviously, picking Zach Ertz too since I just knew it was going to happen!! So you ask why I am disappointed in SMF draft... HE SPENT A EXCESS OF $22 ON HIS FINAL TWO PLAYERS LB AND K. At least Dan excepted the fact that he messed up a left $11 in his bank. I saw you "hide" that extra dollar amount and you will regret this during the 2015 season!! That $22 (over 10% of your budget) could have turned Kelvin into the D. Thomas I thought SMF would draft (*and we all know how well Kelvin will do know sitting in waivers). But Kelvin was good pick at 26 before the injury. Or Hyde for $22 more you could've added Forte or Ingram to your team, not to say Hyde was a bad choice but it could have been better. Or you could've straight out added Latavius Murray, Jonathan Stewart, or Jordan Matthews with some RB or WR depth. Since I'm a money guy, this get my blood boiling.
Overall, SMF has a decent starting squad from week to week and should put up enough points to keep matches interesting. I always get nervous having 3 WRs starters on the non-bye weeks as WRs points are either high or low depending on targets and aren't as consistent. SMF will have a few great weeks when match-ups are right but the bye weeks starting week 4 won't help him when that bench starts getting integrated into the starting roles. Let's just hope the depth you did purchase with Torrey Smith, Tre M (but some teams say "Forget about Tre") or Davante Adams can perform well enough to add a little depth to these discounted starters. Recap: IO (AW#1): A- RB depth is rough with Gore as RB2 (do the Colts ever Run?), Strong WR corps but interesting QB choice... we'll see how long it takes Bradford to be back on the waiver wire. Your bench is a little bit better than AW#2 which is why you earned AW#1 and a A- rating. Mullynation (AW#2): B+ only because your RB depth is so sub par. You still have the best set of QB, 2RBs, and 2WRs. But you already started with with the 2014 number 1 QB and RB. You really couldn't get 1 more decent RB to backup for flex Murray and Charles? Just saying with your starting two I expected a more solid bench, but that's just me. 90*: A- has a solid starting core from QB through Flex. He only, earns a A- because he started with only Forsett and not the power-house keepers above. Decent WR depth but could use a injury or two at NO or PHI to make his bench a little better. TC2: C+ Smart move to not keeper anyone from the PY except the required JT. Like the RB core but could use a little more WR, which is now more relevant then ever with Jordy on the IR all year. Could've had a B or B+ but saving money at the end is a no go in my book. As such, you earned a C+ from me this year. 302: D I do not understand why you didn't keeper J. Hill for $6 (if anyone can provide a reason I will edit my grade). Thats at $30-35 discount and then purchase Antonio Brown... And keepering him at $46 next year. loses all your profit margin... But please, try to prove me wrong. BCH: A- Started with 2 decent WRs, added a few top 10 and 15 RBs with Dez as well. Decent bench so overall. Definitely enough up side to "forget about tre" RG: B Not a bad draft but a little worried about a few of the starters like L. Murray and Miller being the work horse while Bell is either suspended or on a bye. Also DeSean Jackson is a bit nerve wracking with RG3 and the QB situation up in the air. Overall, has Gronk and JJ. Watt though to earn himself a B TH: B- pending extra credit to earn an A. Probably overbidding a little on McCoy (and purchased Ingram or spent a few extra bucks on Forte) but he bought a lot of new talent which is tough to assess at this point. 6 rookies might be a little excessive but I'm looking for the extra credit so maybe I'll earn enough for a A after week 1 or 2. NSA: C+ Keepering Isaiah Crowell earned you a low draft score. This is a new team and a new NSA!! drop those scrubs from last year and start new. You have a few guys with Rodgers, AP, TY, and Jimmy but with a limited bench you could have some tough weeks with byes or tough team match-ups. Overall applaud you for going big on AP but 61 is a little much for me. Save a few bucks on Charles or Lynch to build up the remaining starting roster spots. SMF: D Definitely picked up some quality talent with Hill and Hyde in the RB slot but the hoarding of $22 until the end is unforgivable in my book. Thats over 10% of your budget which earns you a spot at the bottom of the draft ranking. Hopefully, you can manage your team better than your budget since I want you to redeem yourself and earn your name back!! You can do it SMF, just be sure to manage the talent you have and maybe you can get out of the 10 spot. Summary Well I hope this was worth the wait everyone. I might not see the real fantasy value of each of your players so that B ranked draft could really be that A+ you believe it to be (cough cough - Allyssa). Just prove me wrong week one and I will "eat" my own words writing that first weeks - match-up summary. I think that everyone has at least one "star" who will make or break your fantasy season. Some were lucky enough to keeper these stars for next to nothing (MN, IO, TH) and some of you sold your soul (NSA, TC2, BCH). We can only hope that these stars don't turn into black holes and have to rebuild from RB1 or WR1 and down. Sorry TC2 and SMF... Jordy and Kelvin definitely hurt but hopefully the karma will turn back to your favor on the waivers when the league gets in to gear. I really can't wait to see how the final rosters shape out for each team!! I have a mental power ratings that is always shifting based on teams changing. I mean who knows how TC2 and IO's team will look after they drops 3 players to add back their defensive players. We can all see the strategy of picking up the top preseason talent and try your luck at trades of 2-3 waivers players for 1 solid backup player. You'll have to drop them eventually guys, and the rest of the league will be ready to pick up what's left instead of accepting trades for guys that just might be available in a few weeks. Everyone!! I can't wait to see how everyone's team shapes up for week 1 when the magic really happens. Try your best to prove to me that your team deserves that A+ status as compared to the Bs and Cs that I handed out. There will be special *Edits in the weekly recaps where I will accept my mistakes or, more likely, prove I was right all along as to why your team deserves the rating that was given. Hopefully, you all enjoyed this draft recap and look forward to the power ranking and game predictions which comes before the Season Opener with the Vikes game!!
